Customer Review: HANDY DEVICE
Bought this product before going on vacation since I couldn't locate the original adapter for my camera (thanks to my 3yo's facination with cords). I love the smaller design and it charged quickly. It packs up in the camera bag nicely. I won't have to worry about where it went anymore.
Customer Review: This is the only one to use.
The is the best, do not buy anything else. It works far better than others.

Sony VF-30CPKXS 30mm Polarizing Filter Kit for DCR-DVD92, 203, 403, 405, 505, HC90, 96 & HDR-HC3, SR1 Camcorders

Sony VF-30CPKXS 30mm Polarizing Filter Kit for DCR-DVD92, 203, 403, 405, 505, HC90, 96 & HDR-HC3, SR1 Camcorders
Designed for Sony camcorders with a 30mm filter diameter * reduces glare * intensifies color and contrast
Customer Review: 1 for 2
The polarizer works well, but my first one did not thread on all the way so it fell off and was lost. The second one I bought threads completely on/in. Such small filters ought to be cheaper. It should have threads on the front of the polarizer so you could screw the UV on it, and there is no cap. You have to remove them and replace them each time and you can't use them together. I put the cheaper UV filters on the polarizers on my still cameras (it's cheap protection). Without a cap you will probably scratch them up pretty soon when shoving it in or pulling it out of a bag. It is still a must have for me, but with significant drawbacks. Same thing for the wide angle lens, no threads and no polarizer available to go on that. Generally good quality stuff from Sony but not particularly impressed with these.
Customer Review: works as advertised
I purchased this polarizing filter for my Sony HC96. The Sony store at the mall did not have it in stock and the Sony website was also out of stock. Either it's a popular item or Sony didn't produce a large volume of it. Anyway, it took Amazon at least a couple of weeks to ship it. I took the filter on my trip to Yosemite. It did just as advertised --- made the sky more blue and removed light reflections from glass windows and water surfaces. If you want to keep the reflections for visual effect, you just have to rotate the lens out of the effective meridian. The protective lens that came with the filter was handy, too. At first, I didn't know why I would need it because I justed wanted a polarizing filter. It turns out that it's good for protecting the camera lens from wind/dust and water spray from the waterfalls when the polarizing filter is off the camera. It seems pricy ($75), maybe because it's a Sony or because it's not a popular item. I'd say it's not useful for most occasions, esp. indoors. It's a luxury item for outdoor shots as a hobby.

Customer Review: Video Light
Perfect feature no additional ac connection. Just mounted and you are ready to go for those dark spot and clear colorful pictures. Enjoy
Customer Review: Does what it's suppose to do
I had to get this after I bought a wide-angle lens for my SR11. The lens covered the flash on the camcorder. The wide-angle combined with this external flash/light captures amazingly beautiful picture. The light is good for recording subjects within 3ft-6ft, but I rarely use it because it's really bright and annoys the person I'm recording.

Customer Review: Good, not as good as hoped
I bought this while living in Hawaii and sold it a little before moving. The whole process of getting it from dv to file format was just too annoying for me. The quality of the video was pretty good, not as high as hoped. The slow motion capture was a nice feature, but was pretty restrictive. The compact size was great and it was relatively easy to handle on the go. I'd definitely say at this point to avoid DV even at some quality loss and go with something that is recording straight to file for ease.
Customer Review: Works quite well
This camera works With ideal conditions, the camera can capture very impressive HDV footage, but with less light... it can be, well... not so good I got this camera for home use, I own professional Sony HD cameras, so Sony is always my top choice. For home use, its ok Note: The deck transports are very good for a camera this cheap, and the lens is above average. see ya! f3

The DCR-HC52 MiniDV Handycam camcorder is a high quality, versatile, and highly capable device. Customer Review: Great gift!
For ease of use, convenient size and portability, it would be hard to beat this camcorder. This was purchased as a Christmas gift after seeing several sites researching it on the intended recipient's computer. Unfortunately, the day before this one arrived, he bought one himself, so it had to be returned, but we're both quite happy with this item and would recommend it without reservation, especially for a novice user.
Customer Review: Wonderful starter camera
Although this is a camcorder that doesn't have many features (ie: no external mic input, no headphone input), it works like a charm for those who just want to take decent-quality videos for a great price. The picture isn't all that great, but it's a nice little camera that hasn't let me down yet. It's lightweight and easy to travel with. Even without an external mic input, it picks up sound very well. I use it often, even for a major project I am doing. Get yourself some video-editing software with this camera, a firewire (IEEE 1394 is what I use) to connect it to your computer (make sure your computer has a firewire port, as this camcorder doesn't use a USB cable for hook up), and you're good to go. The best part about this camcorder: Mine didn't require the manufacturer's annoying software that you have to install in order to use the camcorder with your computer!! I love that part. I can upload the videos straight into any software program that supports DV video uploading (like Windows Movie Maker). I have used this camcorder both with Windows XP and Vista. No problems either way. I highly recommend it!

Sanyo VPC-C5 MPEG-4 Camcorder with 5MP Digital Still Camera & 5x Optical Zoom

Sanyo VPC-C5 MPEG-4 Camcorder with 5MP Digital Still Camera & 5x Optical Zoom
Make movies anywhere with this tiny, tapeless digital camera. In fact, this multifunction video camera/digital still camera is so small and lightweight, others might mistake it for a cell phone. But don't be fooled by its diminutive design; the VPC-C5 sports a five-megapixel image sensor and can capture more than 15 minutes of DVD-quality MPEG-4 video on the included 128MB memory card.

The VPC-C5 fits easily in the palm of your hand
The VPC-C5 is designed to fit into and be operated by one hand.
Digital Still Camera
The VPC-C5's 1/2.5 inch, 5.26-megapixel CCD sensor can capture images with enough photo-quality detail to create prints as large as 13-by-17-inches. What's more, the camera features real-time pixel interpolation that can simulate the level of detail rendered by 10-megapixel cameras--images that look sharp when printed at 18-by-24 inches.

The camera features a built-in 5x optical zoom lens. Since even the smallest movements and vibrations are magnified in telephoto photography, the camera's built-in image stabilization will help you get sharp, clear photos even when your subject is far away. The camera's optical zoom is complemented with a 12x digital zoom.

Seven scene-select modes will help you optimize your camera for common shooting conditions: auto, sports, portrait, landscape, night view, fireworks, and lamp. The camera even has a Super Macro mode, which will allow you to focus and frame on tiny subjects, such as a flower or sea shell, that are only one centimeter away from the front of the camera lens. The camera also boasts a 3-mode flash (Auto/Forced/Off with slow synchro possible in Night View mode) and a selectable two-second/10-second self-timer.

Graph showing the advantages of MPEG-4 video
MPEG-4 video compression allows the VPC-C5 to capture and store more video than other video formats.
Digital Video Camera
The VPC-C5 captures full-frame MPEG-4 compressed digital video. Unlike most digital cameras that take short, small, silent video clips, this machine captures movies at a smooth 30 frames-per-second--the same frame rate standard as broadcast television. Also, it records high-quality stereo audio with built-in wind roar reduction, so clips taken at the slopes or the beach are less likely to have their audio muffled by sudden gusts. The VPC-C5 even lets you snap digital stills while you're filming video.

Comparison image between stabilized and non-stabilized images
The VPC-C5 built-in image stabilization minimizes the subtle hand movements and vibrations that make for blurry shots during telephoto shooting.
The camera's large two-inch trans-reflective LCD monitor makes viewing your stills and clips easy, even in direct sunlight. Best of all, the screen is mounted on a pivoting hinge: It swings out and pivots for easy viewing during even high- and low-angle shots, can pivot all the way around for self-portrait framing, and folds together for screen-protecting storage when not in use. The camera supports digital output in the form of USB 2.0 and S-Video analog output.

Easy to Use
Tiny cameras--especially those packed with a lot of features--can be difficult to figure out. Fisher has gotten around this problem by creating an on-board talking navigation guide that explains the camera's features and settings in plain English audio. It comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and it supports the camera-to-printer functionality of PictBridge. The camera even comes with a dedicated docking station to make image uploads and battery recharging a one-touch procedure.

What's in the Box
VPC-C5 multifunction digital camera, Sanyo Software Pack 7.2 CD-ROM, docking station, cable adaptor, USB interface cable, S-AV interface cable, SD memory card, lithium-ion battery, AC adaptor charger (100 - 240 V) and power cord, soft case, neckstrap, lens cap, remote controller, quick guide.
Customer Review: A great multipurpose camera/camcorder
I've had this unit for about 3 months and have to say I'm very impressed. The main benefit of this camera is that it is both a 5mp camera and a camcorder (and a webcam and a voice recorder, havent tried those functions yet) even though I use this "toy" primarily for the still images. Photos are what you would expect from a high end 5mp camera (10mp interpolated), and the video is pretty decent for a camera of its size, but when there is poor lighting watch out - your videos may turn out completely black. As well, even though you can record up to 50 or so minutes on a standard 1gb SD card, you'll need about 3 batteries to do so since they last roughly 20 minutes each. The only other downside I've seen with the camera is the weird autofocus at closer ranges since it sometimes picks out images about 3 to 5 meters behind what your trying to shoot, and the lens noise is somewhat annoying. I would recommend this camera to just about anyone looking to get into the digital scene (unless you have big hands since this unit is small), but not by paying retail price for it - deals are out there, and the prices are lower due to the C6 coming out. Bracketman@gmail.com
Customer Review: Mostly Excellent
I've had my C5 for about 2 weeks and so far I love it - it has only a few minor drawbacks. Pros: * MPEG4 and SD Card storage (primary reasons I got this camera) * Size - it easily fits in my front jean-pocket * Ease of use - it's exceedingly simple to offload images and videos from the camera to your PC - I just put it in the USB docking and charging station and then use a mixture of Picasa (for the pictures) and manual cut and paste for the videos (Picasa doesn't recognize the MP4 extension, unfortunately) * Image quality is good, at least when the lighting is adequate Cons: * Since the field of view is different between stills and video, taking pictures at the same time as the video is confusing to some - I'd reccommend using the B mode which displays a smaller video frame inside the still picture frame, rather than the A mode which "zooms out" when you take the still photo. * The zoom/focus makes an audibly discernable noice (left speaker only) when zooming in/out * Haven't found any support information at Sanyo's site - luckily so far I haven't needed it * Using it as a PC/Web camera is more difficult than it ought to be * Internal battery - no possibility of getting a larger battery To be determined: * How much exactly can I fit on a 1GB SD card? So far it's looking like it takes about 20MB per minute (in High Quality VGA, 30 fps), so I should have about 50 minutes or so, but I haven't tested this yet. * How long does the battery last?

Customer Review: Great camcorder for hiking
Most hikers have either point-and-shoot digital cameras (which have a setting for videos) or a digital camcorder. The point-and-shoot cameras, though, don't allow you to zoom in and out during your video. Well, this Sanyo Xacti VPC-E2 allows you to do that - obviously because it is mostly meant for videos. But even most camcorders aren't waterproof. This one is! And for such a great price. I never even found out before I bought this camcorder that it records audio, takes pictures in several different settings, takes sequential pictures in some of those settings, and takes videos in (I think) every setting, as well as being able to take pictures while taking a video! This is something extremely helpful for hikers - most don't want to get their camera wet, which limits their routes. But now they don't have to be worried! Great camera, great price! I would suggest this to anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a camera!
Customer Review: Handy backup camera/camcorder.
I like it lot. The pros overweight cons hands down. Pros: 1. Compact; 2. Waterproof; 3. Well-built; 4. Descent quality daylight photos and videos; 5. Cheap memory cards; 6. Easy and customizable UI; 7. Great close-ups; 8. Still shots while recording video - awesome! Cons: 1. You can not see display in bright light or underwater. You do not have optical viewfinder either; 2. Flash is a joke; 3. Battery life is short. You will need 1-2 extra batteries when you travel. Fresh battery will give you 1 hour of recording w/o playback or flash; 4. Special USB cable - do not lose it; 5. Could use wider angle lens; 6. Bundled software is bugly and outdated; To the people who have trouble reading SD card w/o cable - your card reader most likely does not support HDSD cards. Grab one that does. You won't need this cable at all, unless you plan to use the camera as a web cam.

Customer Review: Exceptional Case!
This case just arrived today. I don't usually write reviews, but I am so pleased with Sony that I wanted to thank them for such an exceptionally well thought out and well made item. I don't even have a sony camera - I use the Canon XH-A1, but any camera similar to this will fit because the case has an excellent range of velcro adjustment to suit many types of mid-sized video cameras. There are pockets everywhere - no space is wasted, and everything is done with quality.

Customer Review: EXCELLENT
Battery fits perfectly, charges fast and based on my original battery, it should last a long time.
Customer Review: Better than expected
I've read many reviews on batteries that over-hype the product. This one was right on. It gives so much more life than I expected. It is definitely bigger than a standard battery, but how else would you expect to get a longer charge? Ignore anyone who says its too big or too heavy. The fact is, if you want more battery life you have to give a little somewhere else. Your camcorder is tiny compared to 10 years ago, and this battery will help you capture more memories than a standard one.

With the included armband, lanyard or clip, position the microphone wherever your "star" may go. With security native to Bluetooth technology, be assured that you are safely capturing the sounds of your special moments.
Customer Review: Outstanding mic -Bluetooth
This mic is so easy to use. We use it in our elementary school & my 5th graders have no problem with it. It's actually easier to use than other more expensive mics are. The quality of the audio is excelent.
Customer Review: Didn't work for our purpose
I read the positive reviews for this prior to purchase. For home video/audio recording it might work fine. We were trying to use it for recording "how to" demonstrations and it was not suitable for that use. It has an overly sensitive, built-in audio limiter and as soon as the microphone picks up additional sound (glass beads in a vase, etc.) it lowers the overall audio level sharply, causing the level of the speaker's voice to drop very noticibly. Then when the background noise ends, the speaker's voice level pops back up. There is no manual adjustment to the audio limiter - that would solve this problem. Because of the over reactive audio limiter we had to return this product.

Customer Review: Sony HDR UX7, a steal
I owned a DCR DVD 305 previously and decided to take the next step. Glad I did. Nothing compares to AVCHD. Except maybe real film. This cam is prosumer. I cont care if it doesn't look like an FX-7. The selling points for me were: 1. The assignable dial for manual control of shutter, exposure, focus, whatever you decide to assign to it. Having auto settings can be great but some shots require some tweaking and manual control is a must. 2. 6.1 mega pixel still shot. The 305 had a lousy 1mega pixel still shot. Not worth a darn. The 6.1 quality is an option I can boat about. 6.1 mp may be a few years behind, but this is not a digital slr folks. It's a video cam. Often camcorder shot leave traces of interlacing and such that reveal the source of cam it was taken with. Not this one. It looks like a still right from an early digital slr. No interlacing. 3. Mini DVD storage. It seems most the newer AVCHD cameras are going HDD. Hard drives crash. They are prone to incurable errors. If you have ever own a PC with windows XP, you know this. Lesson learned. My previous camera the Sony 305 was a mini DVD storage based cam. When it failed, I was able to recover the disc out of the cam and rip it from my DD drive on the PC. If this had been a HDD cam, I would have lost the footage forever. 4. External mic option. I plan on using a lav mic for interview types of footage. This has the option for an external mic. Super. Besides the jump to HD, those were the main reasons I bought it. It has all the normal options you will find in a DVR. I used Sony's website to compare shop. Very helpful. Some things to think about when you go AVCHD. Editing software is still behind the ball. I managed to score a copy of Sony Vegas Pro 8 which totally supports the AVCHD format and the 5.1 surround audio. Nero 8 Ultimate supports it to but, Nero is limited if you want to get creative. Adobe products, so far are still just supporting HDV, not AVCHD. If you like editing, get a MAC or go with Vegas. The software bundle with the cam is necessary. I tried to bare bones the install and it would not recognize the cam as a valid drive. Take the hit on your start up and install it ALL. Some additional cool things about this camera are that fact that if the cam is on and running on AC power, then a screen saver that is also a tutorial on how to perform tasks runs. Not sure if it is standard but a nice hefty NP FH-70 battery comes with it. Thats about 120 mins of recording. Most Sony cams follow the same ergonomic design so no learning curve required. This cam is not light but also not dead weight. You know you are holding cause it just fills up the hand without rendering your digits feeling fat and uncoordinated. I thought this was the icing on the cake and decided to write this review. And NO I do not work for Sony, but let me tell you this, they have a very fair Customer Service Department. Dave T
Customer Review: Exceeded my expectations
I chose this camcorder because I don't do any video editing, and just wanted a high quality easy to use camcorder. The touch screen is great, doesn't smudge up much at all. I can't imagine why this is a problem for anyone unless you play with your own fecal matter and don't wash your hands. The camcorder stays charged for a long time. The picture quality is incredible. The night mode is amazing. The only thing to know. If you do the HD recording, you can only play in this camcorder, or a Sony brand blue ray disk player. Enjoy.

Customer Review: Technical issues with the product
The product is absolutely wrong for you if you are buying it for Sony HDR SR10. The product's battery doesn't work with the camera. It doesn't also charge in parallel to the camera battery. There is only one adaptor for the entire set of lenses and the filter lenses don't work with the camera. The tripod worked well with the camera. I haven't tried a lot of other accessories especially the car charger, but do not hava high hopes for that. I did get a good service from the seller but am very very unsatisfied with the product.
Customer Review: Great Buy Everything Works!
Got this package from this vendor at Amazon. All items arived new in original packaging. The extra battery works for my HDR-SR11; you need to connect the tiny cable that comes with it from the battery to the camera power port. The only part missing was the one showing the Euro adapter for electricity shown on the image here.

Sony ECM-HGZ1 Shotgun Microphone for DCR-PC55, DCR-DVD305, DVD 405, DVD 505, HDR-HC1, HC5, HDR-UX1, UX5, DCR-SR100 & SR200 Camcorders

Sony ECM-HGZ1 Shotgun Microphone for DCR-PC55, DCR-DVD305, DVD 405, DVD 505, HDR-HC1, HC5, HDR-UX1, UX5, DCR-SR100 & SR200 Camcorders
Bring the audio in your videos to life with the ECM-HGZ1 shotgun microphone from Sony. Used with a compatible Handycam(R) camcorder, the ECM-HGZ1 synchronizes the audio to the camcorder's zoom for audio that is distinct for both modes. In telephoto mode, the microphone focuses on the audio straight ahead of it, isolating the subject matter. In wide-angle mode, the microphone broadens its recording range, so no sound occurring in the frame is missed. The ECM-HGZ1 is designed to work with your camcorder's Active Interface Shoe, so it is easy to connect and simple to use. It is powered by the camcorder, so no need for a separate battery. Included Accessories - Storage Pouch Materials - ABS Plastic / Color - Graphite Silver
Customer Review: Great Price, Fast Delivery, but disappointing sound quality
I purchased this add on mic in hopes to get a clearer, stronger, and enhanced sound quality from spokesperson doing short range demonstration videos from 6' to 15' range. In the zoom setting the sound intensity and quality was barely equal to but no better than the intergrated unit. In gun mode, the voice from the person speaking directly toward the mic sounded slightly muted and tinny like as though speaking through a tin can. It did though minimize peripheral sounds but at the cost of dynamic quality. In summary the built in speaker in my HDR-SR11 offered a clearer, more dynamic sound than the ECM-HGZ1 under the mentioned conditions. Also must mention that the ECM-HGZ1 feels omniously delicate and vunerable to heavy handed pressure. A NON recommendation for this product, But Amazon.com LLC rocks, fast, reliable order processing, and highly satisfactory delivery efficiency, especially to Honolulu, Hawaii. Aloha !!!
Customer Review: Microphone Works Well
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3KU3AZCVEZVHS I read all the reviews and then tested the microphone on my Sony HDR-HC3. I agree with others that the gun mode is best. And there might be uses for the zoom affect, like having the sound increase in strength as one moves into a scene. But in normal mode like filming wedding vows from a distance the gun mode would be best while zoomed or not zoomed.

Sony DCCL50B DC Adapter (Car Battery Adaptor) for most Sony Handycam Camcorders
When you are on the road and looking for a charge, the Sony DCC-L50 is exactly what you need for your Sony camera or camcorder.
Customer Review: Peace of Mind
I have to be honest, I bought the adapter about a year ago and have never used it. However, I do have peace of mind knowing that I can recharge my camcorder (Sony DVD405) wherever I am. I use my camcroder to take photos of properties I list, record my little nephew's football games and various family get togethers. If I ever find myself running from A to B with no time to sit at home waiting to charge my camcorder, I can always plug it into my truck and have it charge during the commute. It's not only a car adapter, it's also an airplane adapter.

Sony Professional HVR-A1U CMOS High Definition Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom

Sony Professional HVR-A1U CMOS High Definition Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom
The HVR-A1U is a compact and lightweight handy-type camcorder, ideal for shooting environments that require mobility. Its size, combined with its long battery life (up to 80 minutes of high-definition recording with the included battery), make it easy to get the shots you need, when you need them.

HVR-A1U camera
See large image
HDV 1080i
The HDV 1080i specification features 1080 effective interlaced scanning lines and 1,440 horizontal pixels. Interlaced pictures, which have been common to TV broadcasts from the beginning, alternately display odd and even numbered lines between each screen refresh. The HVR-A1U can also record at the HDV 720p specification, which features 720 effective progressive scanning lines and 1,280 horizontal pixels. Progressive scanning fills both odd and even numbered lines with each refresh, providing a flicker-free picture.

Not yet ready for HD? The HVR-A1U can convert material from 1080i down to 480i and output this digital video signal through its i.LINK interface or as analog signals through component, composite, or S-video connectors. When down-converting these signals, the aspect ratio displayed can be converted from 16:9 to 4:3, and display modes can be selected from squeeze, letterbox or edge crop.

1/3-inch Type, 2.97-megapixel CMOS sensor
The HVR-A1U incorporates one 1/3-inch type primary color CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) 2.97-megapixel sensor with a formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio. The advantage of a CMOS sensor over CCD is it's ability to process a large volume of picture data at a very small size, which makes it possible for a camera this size to capture HD video. The trade off for this kind of chip over CCD, however, is a small loss in picture uniformity and dynamic range.

HVRA1U camera audio levels
Keep an eye on audio levels on the LCD monitor
Audio
The HVR-A1U adopts the MPEG-2 compression format, which uses 8-bit digital component recording with a sampling rate of 4:2:0. The camera uses MPEG-1 Audio Layer II audio compression format, allowing for two-channel recording with a sampling frequency of 48 kHz/16-bit. It features a built-in stereo microphone, as well as two XLR audio input connectors for use with professional-grade microphones or external audio sources. Each input level for CH1 and CH2 can be independently adjusted using two audio level dials on the camera body and viewed with an audio level meter on the LCD monitor.

Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 10x optical zoom lens
The HVR-A1U is equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* high definition lens with a 10x zoom function. It has the same optical coating as is used on all of the Carl Zeiss prime lenses, which produces sharp, high-contrast images with virtually no chromatic aberration.

In order to facilitate zoom control and recording operation during low-angle shooting, an additional zoom lever has been added to the camera body. There's also a zoom/focus ring located on the lens body that allows for fine adjustments in zoom position. Furthermore, the supplied wireless Remote Commander unit can be used for external control.

Large, 16:9 widescreen color viewfinder and LCD monitor
View your subject through the built-in viewfinder, the swing-out LCD display, or both. The HVR-A1U features a 0.44-inch type color LCD viewfinder and a 2.7-inch color LCD monitor, both in a 16:9 aspect ratio. You'll save battery time by using just one, but you may want to use one for adjusting focus and the other for monitoring audio levels. When eschewing auto focus for the fine-tuning manual focus, you can double the magnification at the center of the screen, making it easier to confirm focus settings during manual focusing. Also, the camera's "peaking" function can provide sharp outlines on the monitor to help with manual focus.

Electronic Super SteadyShot system
Sony's electronic Super SteadyShot System helps remove the slight hand jitter and vibration that is often the bane of video production--especially during telephoto shots. It does this by trimming off edges of the frame on the fly to counteract movement.

HVRA1U Tele Macro
Tele Macro picks up details on subjects from a distance
Tele Macro
It may seem like a contradiction in terms, but the Tele Macro function allows you to capture a macro image from a distance, which is useful for shooting small moving objects. Additionally, this function puts your subject in proper focus while leaving the background out of focus.

The Hollywood look
The HVR-A1U has features that can make your videos look more like they were shot on film. Cinematone Gamma allows operators to quickly setup and load a gamma curve with similar contrast characteristics to a film gamma curve. The Cineframe feature allows movement to be reproduced at 24 frames per second--the speed of film--as opposed to video's 30 frames per second standard.

No new tape stock
The HVR-A1U is compatible with conventional DV tape stock, but Sony recommends the use of DigitalMaster PHDVM-63DM tape, with its dual layer of magnetic material, which delivers higher RF output, lower noise, 95% fewer errors and 60% fewer dropouts compared to regular DV tape.

Customer Review: Great camera for the price!!
I recently had the Canon GL1 and thought it was time to upgrade to Hi-Def. After reading about 30 customer and 20 pro reviews it was the only camera that was offered pro features and great image quality worth way more then the price. It is all because of the CMOS sensor the camera uses. It consumes less power, less money to produce, better image quality then CCD and does not smear light. Some people say it's a consumer camera because it only has a one chip sensor instead of three like a CCD sensor but a CMOS sensor is a lot different then a CCD. A single chip CMOS sensor is three mega-pixels just like three CCD chips. It should be considered a pro camera instead of a consumer camera. OK; now what the camera can do..... It has a touch screen which is handy but you have to keep wiping it off because it smudges easily. The personalized menu is a great idea; you can have all your most used items at a touch away. The cineframe and cinematone features are a good idea if you want your movies to have a more professional Hollywood look to them. The picture quality in good light is almost identical the image quality of the Sony Z1U which cost $4,000 and that's really amazing!! The low light performance is not that good, this is a downside of the CMOS sensor. I really like the exposure lever, one strange thing is that the camera does not give exposure increments like F1.6 ..... F2.6 it just gives you a bar. Three quarters of the bar is for exposure and the last quarter of the bar is gain which digitally brightens the picture and makes the picture real grainy. Just make sure you adjust the exposure manually in dark places and turn the gain off by not going to the last quarter of the bar. It has some other great features and that I am not going to go in to but you can read about them on this page. One other thing is that this camera is quite compact and I am really amazed at the picture quality that it takes. Over all it is great camera and a good choice for any one who needs a good Hi-Def camera for a low price. I hope this review helps and I will be adding more to this review. 06/29/08 I don't know what the problem was with the guy below me. I think he had problems in low light with the camera, this camera is not the best in low light. The auto focus is a little slow indoors but it's a lot better in good light. He also had problems with the mic, there are a lot of settings for the mic and you have to set them right to get good sound. When rewinding tapes I did not think it made a horrendous noise but it does make different pitches as you rewind it. The camera is small, they made it compact so pros could get great images in tight places. If you need a good low light camera go with the Sony V1U. 07/18/08 Price went up $300 from when I bought it, I guess I made a good investment.
Customer Review: Sony Professional HVR-A1U CMOS High Definition camcorder
I purchased this camera last month, and almost at once I knew it was not the camera for me. For several years, I've owned and used a Sony DCR-VX2100 3 CCD Mini DV Camcorder, and have been truly impressed with it. I thought that buying a high definition camera from the same company would be a great move. I was so wrong. The HVR-A1U is the most disappointing camera I have ever come across in my life. It is astonishingly slow to auto focus, and at lower light levels makes nearly continuously adjustments. Even with the CCD turned up to full brightness, the picture looks washed out. Admittedly, I used it mostly at 480i, but even in 1080i mode, the result was no better. So much for the manufacturer's boasts about the Zeiss Vario-Sonna lens; they are, in my opinion, thoroughly unwarranted. The sound quality was also poor, despite the large mic, and when rewinding tapes, this camera makes the most horrendous noise. It is actually designed to do so since the noise changes pitch as the tape spools from one segment to the next. The sound is irritating at all pitches, and I cannot imagine why anyone would want to listen to it. The camera was also a lot smaller than the photos lead one to believe, so check the dimensions if you're used to a bigger, semi-professional camcorder. I returned this camera after trying it for 10 days. Buyer be warned about this one.

Sony WCS999 Wireless Camcorder Microphone for DCR-DVD101/201/301 & DCR-HC20/30/40/65/85

Sony WCS999 Wireless Camcorder Microphone for DCR-DVD101/201/301 & DCR-HC20/30/40/65/85
The WCS-999 Wireless Microphone system from Sony lets you record voices up to 45 meters away depending on environment and transmission conditions. The WCS-999 is ideal for video camcorders - it captures the voices of family members on vacation, in sporting events, at recitals, birthdays and weddings. It is also ideal for Pressman portable audio recorders as it captures lectures and speeches, good for music and nature study.Supplied lavalier microphone is tiny and unobtrusive, clips onto shirt or tie. Built-in windscreen helps reduce the microphone's pickup of wind noise. Omni-directional microphone pattern picks up sound from all directions. Pocket-sized wireless transmitter is easy to hide, clips onto clothing for unobtrusive use. Wireless receiver plugs into camcorder or audio recorder mic input; easily clips onto clothing, camcorder hand strap or shoulder strap. Three transmission channels enable you to choose another channel if you encounter interference. Monitoring earphone lets you hear what's being recorded; plugs into wireless receiver. Mic mixing lets the camera operator and the subject both be recorded. 900 MHz wide FM transmission allows for outstanding sound quality, excellent frequency response (100 - 15, 000 Hz) and extended dynamic range (more than 78 dB). Switchable transmission channel lets you choose the channel with clear, noise-free sound.
Customer Review: Makes videos sound less amateur
I give this 5 stars because it does a good job for what it is. Don't compare it to a $1000 system with a $500 microphone. That's NOT what this is. I don't do much video anymore and one of the few things I do with my camcorder is to sit down with older relatives to give us some storytelling of their memories. I used to do this with my camcorder on a tripod and I always got poor audio because the microphone is far away from the source of sound, and worse, you pick up the sound of the camcorders motors wirring and whining while it works. I knew I needed an external microphone. I checked this because it was a cheap wireless option. I knew the microphone that comes with it is cheap, but decided to see how it performed and I could always upgrade that later. For me: I have never had a problem with this unit. And I haven't been easy on it. It has been abused by an active subject who has ripped it out of his pants and ripped the microphone out of the jack by the cord. I don't get interference, noise, nor drop outs, and I have used it, say up to 10 meters. I have imagined how I could put the camera on one rock and the subject on another rock 100 feet away and do a nice slow zoom out reveal, but frankly, I just don't shoot that kind of stuff anymore and if I did, I'd be using a $2000 wireless system, not a $100 system. The sound I record with this is WAY better than the internal microphone on the camcorder, and that is all you should judge this against. Clean, clear, solid audio goes a long way to elevating you footage away from "home movies." There is nothing like it anywhere close in the market. You have to spend 5-10x the price to go to the next step up. I've never had noise problems with it, either. If I ever did, I just switch channels and it is fine. Perhaps some of the other reviewers work in more noisy areas than me. The only thing is that you need to always monitor it, because there is no indication that one of the batteries is about to run out, and then you've recorded your subject without audio for a while.
Customer Review: Good Value
It does the job for less than 100 bucks. Although not quite studio quality, it's perfect for my wedding videos. I did 17 on-camera interviews and only one of them came out crappy, apparently due to obstruction between transmiter and receiver at a distance of approx. 10 feet. If you're on a small budget, and/or, just starting your business as I am, this is a very good option.

Hi-Capacity Camcorder Battery for: Sanyo Xacti DMX-C1

Sanyo Xacti VPC-C6 6MP MPEG4 Digital Camcorder w/5x Optical Zoom

Sanyo Xacti VPC-C6 6MP MPEG4 Digital Camcorder w/5x Optical Zoom
The Sanyo VPC-C6 Xacti Digital Media Camera with 5x Optical Zoom is a compact digital media device that combines the functionality of a digital camera and a digital camcorder. Different than a standard digital camera that shoots short video clips, the VPC-C6 offers advanced video performance and high-quality stills in one small, lightweight camera.

The Xacti C6 employs Sanyo's proprietary image-adaptive data processing technology, which enables you to shoot MPEG-4 movies and 6.0-megapixel stills simultaneously. Movies are recorded clearly, with TV-like picture quality (VGA/30 frames per second [fps]). The C6 also features a 60 fps playback function for smooth movie playback on your TV screen, along with high-sensitivity technology that enables you to shoot beautiful moves in low-light conditions.

Leading the C6's charge towards crisp digital video and stills is the prominently displayed, highly efficient 5x optical zoom lens. The lens features 12 elements designed in nine groups with a built-in neutral density filter, and a maximum aperture of f3.5 for wide and f4.7 in telephoto angles. This construction allows for clear images in even low-light situations. Combine the optical zoom with a 12x digital zoom, and the C6 is capable of a total 60x zoom. The C6 features a two-inch low-temperature polysilicon color TFT LCD display with 210,000 total pixels. The display flips out from the camera and rotates up to 285 degrees on an axis for taking great video or still images from otherwise-difficult-to-view positions. And when not in use, the screen tucks securely back into the side of the camera for a pocket-sized portability and convenience.

As with all of Sanyo's previous digital media cameras, the C6 can record still images in addition to video. The C6 employs a richly detailed CCD and the same data processing technology used for shooting video. This ensures low digital noise in dark shooting locations, as well as beautiful realization of skin tones and colors. While conventional digital camcorders can often snap stills, they are usually low quality. And while conventional digital cameras can record short video, they are frequently grainy with a slow response speed. The Xacti C6 can do it all, recording both 6.0-megapixel still images and digital video on the same unit. You can even snap a still image while recording digital video with the simple press of the shutter button.

The Xacti C6 is ultra thin (it's less than one-inch wide!) and ergonomically designed. The hand grip and lenses are angled to enable a natural shooting style, and the thumb-operated controls make it exceptionally easy to use whenever opportunity strikes. Sanyo was thinking chic and classy when they designed this camera. The attractive color suggests a luxurious jewelry motif, and the shape and size make it easy to carry around with you every day, just as you would a stylish and tasteful fashion accessory.

Sanyo also makes it a breeze to connect the Xacti C6 to a TV, VCR, PC, or DVD recorder. This means you can easily play back recorded images and stills on your home entertainment system, or make back-up copies of your recorded content while you're enjoying the footage. When you're done enjoying the show, simply place the Xacti C6 into the included docking station to save recorded clips and stills to your computer's hard drive where they can be edited and archived.

What's in the Box

Customer Review: The Underestimated Sanyo Xacti
I think a lot of people underestimate this camera, i bought this for 250.00 at radio shack around Christmas of 2007 on sale, also the display. The warranty was about 55.00 dollars for two years. I think that a lot of users just don't know how to use this camera. If you go into the settings and change the filters, or image size or even the mode, auto, fireworks, sports, etc. I typically use the sports setting making picture virtually clear. Also when taking a picture you slightly press in on the camera button do the green box shows up, there's no flash delay. I love taking pictures with the Black and white filter with the sports setting, the sports setting allows no blurriness. Pictures look professional and a lot people ask me where i get my pictures done. When outside take off the flash, let the sun do it for you. The video setting lets you upgrade your picture setting to HD-quality. People need to just have fun and explore this camera. Like I said before, this camera is so underestimated.
Customer Review: Close but no cigar
I bought this camera because I was hoping for a small, portable camcorder that would also take okay pictures. I brought it on a family beach vacation for a week and returned it as soon as I got back. First of all, I should have tried the water resistant/proof model instead - I don't know what I was thinking. The camcorder and the camera are both pretty good in sunlight/outdoor situations. They pretty much stink indoors or if you need to use the flash. The camera response time is sooooooo slow, especially with a flash. The still pictures are so blurry indoors that the subject looks transparent. It produces too many video files to manage easily (this is my first digital camcorder so this may be the case with all of them but boy is it cumbersome because you have to watch each file to know what is in it - there is no thumbnail picture to help you out). Also, the files are not compatable with windows movie maker which I have been using for a while and am comfortable with. I think you are better off getting a good digital still camera that takes video for now until this form factor can be improved.

Customer Review: The Best
First of all, I am a novice video camera user. My first priority was to have an easy to use video camera that would take good video that was easy to transfer to a PC. After reading the reviews of this and several other cameras I decided to purchase this camera. The camera has met all of my expectations. It is so easy to use and so easy to transfer the video to a PC. Using a free online video converter I was also able to use Windows Movie Maker to edit my video. I am an educator and I wanted to be able to use my camera with Windows Movie Maker for digital storytelling. I love this camera. The sound quality, the still picture and video quality are exceptional for the money. The camera is a lot smaller than it looks in the pictures and like others who have reviewed it state that it's small size makes you want to carry it with you everywhere (and I do!). I highly recommend this camera for it's quality, ease of use and especially if you are looking for an easy way to transfer your videos to your computer.
Customer Review: Great Hybrid Camcorder.
I've had this for about 2 weeks now. WOW! I am really impressed with the video quality of this hybrid camcorder. I have since taken a bunch of videos and burned it to a DVD using the included Ulead software. I was blown away by the video quality. I owned a Panasonic MiniDV camcorder before and you just can't compare the 2. The Panasonic was really dull and bad. On this one, videos are stored in an SD card. I have an 8GB SDHC and it's so easy to take videos and upload them into the PC. No more of the waiting overnight for your video to be transfered from MiniDV to your computer. I was skeptical initially but now I can say that this one is a keeper. Oh it also takes great still shots. Maybe not as great as my Canon SD700IS, but still takes really good still shots. This is the problem with current camcorders today. They will take good videos but take really pathetic still pictures. These hybrid camcorders are changing the landscape. And Sanyo is definitely taking the lead on this. This camera has everything I want or need from a camcorder. Small compact and very handy, takes really good videos and takes good still photos. It fits right in my pocket and it's very light! No need to bring that huge bag with all the extra tapes, batteries and the likes. I am now a Sanyo believer. Love this CG65!

Sanyo Xacti HD1010 4MP MPEG4 High Definition 1080i/1080p Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom

Sanyo Xacti HD1010 4MP MPEG4 High Definition 1080i/1080p Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom
This compact Xacti HD1010 is easy to carry anywhere. Now you can take stunning full-HD videos any time you like. The HD1010 sports a well balanced, vertically oriented design that fits comfortably in one hand, so you can enjoy long shooting sessions without tiring your wrist. The Xacti HD1010 adopts the MPEG-4 AVC/H264 format for high-compression recording. The resulting files are small in size, yet offer picture quality as good as, or better than, DVD (MPEG-2). A high-speed shooting mode enables smooth and detailed slow-motion playback. And to help keep your images steady, the HD1010 uses a digital image stabilizer to eliminate the effects of unwanted shaking.More than just a movie-shooter, the dual-function Xacti HD1010 also captures still images with ease. An original algorithm employs a pixel-interpolation filter to convert the 4-megapixel captured by the CMOS to the recorded equivalent of 8-megapixel. Another proprietary Sanyo technology creates a wide dynamic range for stills, so that both dark and light areas can be captured at optimal exposure levels.
Customer Review: Great HDTV camera
Some of the controls are not that easy to operate from the hand held position. The remote control is nice. The camera takes beautiful images, still and HDTV, but it takes a while to master all of the controls and video technique in general. Simple mode works well, but you will not see the real potential of the camera until you get into the many manual settings.
Customer Review: God Bless Sanyo for not using AVCHD
A very nice camera indeed, except the stability system everything else works very well. The best feature of this camera is its output format. God bless Sanyo for not using AVCHD -- a format requires not only software but also hardware upgrade if you want to watch your video on your PC. It's a shame Sanyo doesn't have a Optical stability system, the EIS just doesn't work well, otherwise this would be a perfect camcorder.

value for money!!!! I have been using with this my sony High Def handy cam for months, and I am totally satisfied with the product. highly recommended!!!
Customer Review: For Just The Right Shot
The only thing that I was disappointed with, is that 1.7x really isn't that much of an enhancement. I should have done the math. If you are standing 100 feet away from something, a 1.7 zoom factor will make it seem as if you are standing about 60 feet away (58.82 feet to be more precise). That's only about 40 feet closer. I was expecting a psychological "Wow" instead of an "Oh... OK.". But that's no fault of the lens. This lens is high quality. It comes with a heavy cloth pouch, end caps, and a large rubber lens hood. The hood looks cheap, but it does the job - so I'm not complaining. It keeps stray light off the lens, and because it is relatively large, I imagine that it also will keep the lens dry in a light drizzle. That's always a plus. I've heard people complain about vignetting (darkness near the outer edges) when fully zoomed out. There is just a tinge of vignetting in the corners on my HDR-HC7. It is barely noticeable - so I'm quite pleased because although I was prepared and willing to put up with vignetting, I was happy to discover it to be minimal. Because this lens will not bring me significantly closer to my subject, I will probably not use it as often as I had imagined. But I'm glad to have it in my gadget bag because I know that sometimes, it will be just what I need.

Customer Review: Very nice camera
I've taken this camera on multiple outtings now, I have used it for a San Francisco vacation and several family functions. It is a great camera and I highly recommend it. I am not a novice but I'm not an expert and the camera seems fancier than I ever will need. It's easy to use and I love the touch screen but I HIGHLY recommend you get the bigger battery. I did and the big batter will be all you ever need. It also makes DVD's very easily with it's software, and I had no problems using any function.

Customer Review: My Review of the HQRP Replacement AC Power Adapter
The HQRP Replacement AC Power Adapter for AC-L10 , AC-L10A , AC-L10B , AC-L10C Sony Handycam CDD-TR , CDD-TRV , DCR-TRV , DCR-DVD Series Camcorders plus HQRP Black Mini Tripod and HQRP Carrying Bag is a great buy. I do a lot of video taping and often use my camcorder close to a voltage source which allows me to use the AC Power Adapter so I can save on the battery. You do need to make sure that when you use the AC Power Adapter as a voltage source to operate the camcorder, that you make sure you have the battery out, because if you leave the battery in the camcorder it will possibly give you an error code and the camcorder will not work right until you take the battery out. If you want to use the AC Power Adapter to charge a battery just put the battery in the camcorder and leave the power switch in the off position. Then hook up the AC Power Adapter to the camcorder and let the battery charge for a couple hours. The HQRP Black Mini Tripod and HQRP Carrying Bag are very nice I use my small tripod to hold the camcorder when making a video. I like this product very much and use it a lot so I do want to recommend this product I know I like it.

Now you can create, edit and archive home movies and digital photos while storing and accessing data from one disc. DVD-R discs capture all digital data brilliantly, and are large enough to hold oversized digital movie files. Sony DVD-R for one-time recording is a relatively inexpensive way to store data and prevent accidental erasure.

Customer Review: Waterproof camcorder
I bought this for my trip back to Ohio for our family reunion. When I was looking to finally purchase a camcorder I had several criteria points to achieve.1) Ease of operation.I needed a camcorder that was ready to capture whatever I came across when it happened and not a minute later.2)I needed a camcorder that was compact enough to fit in my pants pocket(I didn't want to lug a case around).3)Storage media had to be compact as well.Imagine storing several cassettes or several discs in your pocket, not very comfortable.Hard drive camcorders I found too susceptible to the hard drive crashing, and at the time I was shopping for a camcorder this was way more affordable.3)Waterproof. This is a great feature!!!!I bought it for when we would go to the Amusement parks and get on the water rides. But not only did I use it for that but I have also used it on water slides(no problems). And I have used it in our backyard pool and when we went to our time share, in their pool. Not only is the pictures great but it actually has sound that you can hear underwater.People at our time share were very impressed with it.I have even used this camcorder on roller coasters. The only drawback to that is that the screen flops back and forth ,but it took the beating. It is even compact enough for me to sneak it into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and take pictures of memorabilia that you are not supposed to because the items are on loan.I am however having issues with the movie software that came with it.But that is most likely because of me.When it comes to camcorders,in my opinion, this was money well spent!!!!! One drawback though,NO LIGHT ON CAMCORDER!So when it comes to night time movies make sure you have plenty of light.
Customer Review: SANYO XACTI E1 vs E2
I had this item in my Cart when it was $350. The price dropped to $250 and I made my purchase right away. Then I found out that there is a new kid in town, the SANYO XACTI E2 which cost just another $100. The same price of E1 just days before. For $100 more I learned that you get : 8 megapixel (new E2) vs 6 megapixel (E1) 60frames per sec recording (new E2) vs 30frames per sec recording (E1) Face detection technology that suggests improvements in the focus. fast 5frames per sec photo shots (to capture fast action) New underwater white balance mode. Everything else such as the waterproof casing is the same. I wanted to know was it really worth it to exchange for the NEW E2 in case I might regret later. So I did a little research. First off, when the sanyo E1 arrived, I was surprised with all the features it has. This isn't really a beginners camera (otherwise get the Flip ultra) If you do learn what these features do, you wont find it so bad and on the plus side you are in much greater control how everything turns out. A lot of people complained about the slow focusing. Here's how you fix the problem. You simply switch 9 point autofocus to spot focus . 9 point is letting the computer pick its own focus in 9 areas on the screen. if you set to spot. whatever you have in the center will be focus and nothing else. Easy as done. Underwater mode on the E2 is nothing more than using the Eye dropper tool in the E1. With the eye dropper tool. you simply let the camera take a sample of your environment and lighting condition and it'll adjust to a perfect fit. I AM VERY SURPRISE THAT THERE IS SUCH A TOOL! I'LL NEVER HAVE PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHTING CONDITION. the face detection technology embedded in E2 is good, but it's not necessary because you there is another kind of focusing adjustment feature in E1 where you get to manually select how far is your object, landscape +portrait (the computer wont try to focus anything too upclose), macro (very close up) and total range (the computer here decides). People complain it doesnt focus fast enough is probably because Total range is selected and they were try to shoot a dog running around, a building, or just landscape. The computer is confused! So just use the Landscape +portrait and your problem is solved. if you are filming your kid's play, concert and your position is fixed. Simply simply select manual focus and pick the correct distance. The computer will not run off focusing anything else. 8megapixel vs 6megapixel. 60frames per sec vs 30 frames per sec. 5 frames per sec photo mode for action shot. How is this better you ask? not really better. The trick here is CCD VS CMOS. The new E2 has replaced CCD to a CMOS. CMOS is lower in production cost, the technology allows it shoots much faster ..this is why you can acheive 60frames per sec. BUT the quality of the photo and recording is simply not better than a CCD. CCD is much accurate. CCD eats more battery power though. CMOS consume less energy so that is good because you'll have longer battery life. FYI CMOS technology is also in all cell phone cameras. It allow faster viewing and doesnt eat up all your phone's battery. CCD is better. It picks up and adjust lighting condition more accurately. Go to youtube and type in CCD VS CMOS and you'll understand. I am happy to keep my E1 and save $100 toward memory card , Case and enough for gas. The grip, most people complaint isn't so great. It feels like you might slip the camera. That is true, but once you wrap the wrist lace over your hand, you'll feel much protected from accidental drop. What I also like about Sanyo Xacti E1 is that it's a solid built! it doesnt feel cheap like a toy. That's because it's designed to be waterproof and they have to use the better material. The other non-waterproof sanyo hand-held camera feel plastics and has a cheaper frame! I went to walmart and compared and the plastic on those are flimsy..really flimsy. What's also great about the waterproof case is that if you dont really plan on using it much underwater, you can just clean it off with water if it gets dirty. Someone gave a good point that if you were to film in a dusty place or gone on a vacation for a week. There will be dust all over. just drop this in a bucket of clean water and you're good to go!. Sound quality =one word "AWESOME" Very crisp , clean, clear! High digital quality! better than mp3 quality as they stated. Yes that's correct. Better than a Flip ultra (previously own) . for $250 right now. it is so cheap! Think of this; battery by itself is $50 Charger " $50 USB cable $20 TV cable $20 ------------------------- $140 Sanyo Xacti E1 by itself $110!!!!!! it records high quality video better than FLip ultra. It has better sound! it is waterproof!!! waterproof case cost over $100!!!!! You have much in control of the features. What made me really decide to just keep E1 is has a CCD sensor to capture images which results in better quality. Bottom line is it's not going to capture DVD super quality, but way better than YOUTUBE VIDEO AND FLIP ULTRA OF COURSE. The only things I wish it had is: lens cap Better soft case but these are not so important.

Sanyo VCP-L06WU 0.6x Wide Angle Adapter Lens for HD1, HD1A and HD2 Camcorders

Sanyo VCP-L06WU 0.6x Wide Angle Adapter Lens for HD1, HD1A and HD2 Camcorders
This Sanyo VCP-L20TU Telephoto Adapter Lens (2.0x) is for use with the Xacti HD1, HD1A, and HD2 Camcorders.
Customer Review: Wide angle a must
I found the wide angle lens to be a must in many situations. Was very helpful on vacation taking shots of buildings. Indoor the camera itelf is not good, so not as helpful for indoor photography, because as stated before you cannot use the flash when lens in installed. My problem is that the lens does not thread on. It is held on the front of the camera with a rubber ring. Works great, but when I took the lens off one time on vacation it fell off without me realizing until too late. I still can hold it in front of camera, but am buying a new one to get the rubber ring. PS...without the rubber ring I hold it in front of my pocket digital camera lens to get nice wide angle shots...very usefull.
Customer Review: Great for video but cannot be used for stills w/ flash
If you purchase this wide angle lens adapter for the Xacti HD1A, you will not be able to take still photos using the built in flash. The adapter blocks the flash and causes black shadows in the bottom half of your photos. It does work well for video. The Sanyo Xacti HD1A camera itself is a disappointment.

Customer Review: Excellent battery life!
I can't believe how cheap the Sony batteries are compared to JVC and they last way longer. This one lasts me over 200 min every time. With battery life this good I don't bother plugging in to AC power any more. I thought about getting an anton bauer rig but I think I'll get a couple more of these instead.
Customer Review: Must have for all serious videographers
I'm a professional wedding videographer and batteries are something of a must-have. There's no excuse for having your camera plugged into an outlet via an extension cord - it's a tripping hazard and it just looks tacky. That's why if you're doing extended periods of filming you've got to have a really long-life battery. That's exactly what this battery delivers - about 715 minutes of battery life when you're recording. (That's just about 12 hours!) I use a Sony DCR-VX2100 professional video camera, so this battery is perfect! Get two!

Sony DCR-SR42 30GB Hard Disk Drive Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom

Sony DCR-SR42 30GB Hard Disk Drive Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom
Stop stopping. None of us likes to switch tapes in the middle of a shoot, or waste time rewinding and capturing. That's why the DCR-SR42 Handycam camcorder contains a 30GB built-in hard disk drive (HDD) storage and allows you to capture up to 20 hours of recording time (LP) so you don't need to mess around with tapes. A brilliant 2.5" Touch Panel LCD display keeps the controls at your fingertips while a 40x optical/2000x digital zoom makes sure you catch all the detail. And when it comes time to share your memories, it couldn't be easier with the one touch disc burn capability and the Memory Stick Duo media slot. The DCR-SR42 puts the simplicity back into shooting and sharing your videos.
Customer Review: Good Handycam
Merits: 1. It's a Sony! (Brand value). 2. Compact and light-weight. 3. Carl Zeiss lens. 4. hard disk memory, easy to transfer to computer. 5. I got the refurbished one from sonystyle.com for 300 bucks. Thats pretty cheap for a 40x zoom HDD camcorder from sony. 6. Motion picture quality is good. Demerits: 1. Does not have a view finder. 2. The Still picture quality is not that great (As indicated by others too). 3. Does not have a neck strap (Or any provision for that). 4. You need the camcorder dock to charge as well as transfer movies into Computer. 5. The bundled video editor doe not have much functionality. Only you can cut a video, i could not find any option to merge several videos into one. Overall i like this camcorder, i will buy some video editing software to work on the videos a bit.
Customer Review: Not Worth It
I regret buying this camcorder. Video only looks okay when shot outside in the sun. If you shoot video inside, it looks very grainy. Forget about taking pictures with this camcorder since the resolution is so low. The pictures look awful! I'm buying a different one. Don't waste your money!

Customer Review: Sanyo Camcorder
This Camcorder is not good. it was cheap to buy but you get what you paid for lousy quality. pay $200 more and get the higher model with better quality and more user friendly.
Customer Review: Great Pocket HD Camcorder
I've had this camera for a couple weeks now and I really like it! I was looking for a pocket HD camcorder in the $200-$300 price range, and this was by far the best one I tried. I compared it directly with Flip's new pocket HD camera, the Mino HD, and the HD700 is superior in so many ways. Head to Head on video quality: Excellent video quality in ideal lighting situations. The Mino HD had slightly crisper quality, but the white balance on the mino is crippling, causing colors to look VERY unnatural. The HD700 has near flawless colors. Low light is not the strength of either camcorder, but at least you can compensate with the HD700. Manual ISO settings make the video more than passable. Not so with the Mino HD - noise just destroys the video quality and the white balance compensates with oversaturated yellows. What set's the Sanyo HD apart from the Mino HD: Besides the picture quality as noted above, the HD700 also offers the following features one should expect on a camcorder priced at $200 and above -Optical Zoom - 5x (if you think the HD700 has perma zoom, the Mino HD is far worse) -Image stabalization -Large swivel LCD screen - 2.7 inches -Manual features - ISO, White Balance, Focus, exposure and so much more -Excellent sound quality - I can't begin to tell you how much better the sound is on the HD700 vs. the Mino HD -Still picture capability -Can shoot in HD and SD -Records to SDHC cards (8gig maximum) -Ergonomic design -Excellent build quality -Fits in your pocket -Video looks fantastic on a large HDTV Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this camera and glad I made the purchase. This is a quality camcorder at a great price and offers so many great features in a small, pocketable package.

Opteka .5x HD2 Wide Angle Lens for Sony Handycam HDR-UX1 UX10 UX20 SR1 HC62 HC52 HC96 HC3 DCR-SR42 SR45 SR65 SR85 SR220 SR10 Camcorder
Nothing changes the way you see the world like High Definition², and no company does High Definition² like Opteka. In the professional setting, Opteka's glass optics define High Definition. Change the way you view the world. Enjoy outstanding detail, enjoy enhanced clarity, enjoy Opteka. Since it fits right over your camera's existing lens system, a wide-angle converter affects the full zoom range of your camera's lens. A wide-angle converter increases your angle of view - scenes include more of the landscape, groups include more people, and interiors show more of the room. A .5x wide-angle converter DOUBLES your angle of view, allowing you to get twice as much in the picture (AND your telephoto setting also becomes wider; not zooming in as close).
Customer Review: Excellent wide angle lens, not very expensive
I received the Opteka lens quickly from the seller. I have used it often since getting it. I am very happy with the quality of the videos. And the price was quite reasonable.
Customer Review: Great lens on a budget
At about 1/8 of the price of the similar lens made by Sony, this lens is a good substiture. There is some slight blurring on the very corners of the screen, but most of the blurring is beyond the viewable region for most TV's so it's barely noticable. It doesn't work with the still photo mode on my HDR-SR1 but I use the still mode so rarely that it doesn't matter to me.

Customer Review: Small, Compact, Gets the Job Done.
I'm glad I didn't purchase a universal charger for $14; it's well worth the extra money for the official Sanyo charger. Plus if you are signed up for Prime, you get 2-day free shipping! Negatives: - Need to use provided power cord - Gets alittle warm when charging Positives: - Gets the job done - Not as big as $14 universal battery chargers
Customer Review: Sanyo VAR-L20U, worth it but same as you have.
Sanyo Battery Charger works great. From the picture it looks like it's one piece and plugs directly into the wall, perfect for travel, but it isn't. It has a power cord just like the OEM... Nothing different

Customer Review: AVCHD Compression Nearly Impossible to Edit
First, I absolutely LOVE this camera. The image stabilization, the optics, and the controls combine for a wonderful experience that creates simply gorgeous video. My son's Pee-Wee football games look like ESPN HD! The photos were just ok. Oh, it can even fit in a roomy pocket--about like a soda can. Not super comfortable, but doable. However, I had to return it when I discovered that the videos it records are nearly impossible to edit. I have a decently souped-up dual 2GHz machine w/2 GB of RAM and Sony's own Pro version of Vegas editing software. It crashed their own software nearly every time. They've since released an update that lets it work with AVCHD-encoded videos without crashing. However, the biggest problem is playback. I have a super nice NVIDIA graphics card, but my system could only play these files back about 1 frame per-second--or less. Did some quick research and if you want to actually work with this video you'll need an unbelievably powerful machine with a raid HD array (although there didn't seem to be much agreement on what kind of rig would actually run this stuff). Many people never actually need to edit their video. They just shoot it and then play it back from the camera. You'll need to buy a mini-HDMI cable to get it to your new flat-screen TV, but with that cable the playback was glorious.
Customer Review: Quality Product/ Curious when non miniDV HD cams will be streaming capable
I will firstly admit that my husband was the one to do the research on this item. He is incredibly thorough before he buys anything. However, I'm the one that gets the most use out of it. There was one agreement upon what type of camcorder we'd get, and that's flash based memory. A. miniDV will definitely become obsolete in the near future, B. HardDrive based have potential room for error, and C. DVD as well as the MiniDV have gear components that have risk of breaking. Knowing from experience, fixing motor parts in a camcorder are costly! We love to tape our parties and trips, but we also live far from family and like to use it as a webcam. Our old Canon MiniDV did this easily, but with the new generation of cameras out there, they are not streaming capable. WE have a $30 video capture card that does the trick, but obviously quality isn't HD, nor would hdmi be even capable of streaming. The key is for a video capture card to do real-time compression that's better than 480i. This is what I'd like to see. If you're going to spend up to 1k for a camcorder, I think they need to merge webcam capabilities along side of the regular video taping soon. The cameras with the flash drive memory are getting smaller and smaller, not to mention more efficient. Back to the camera itself. Wonderfully compact, straighforward with its touch screen lcd menu display, INCREDIBLE low light capabilities, and overall obviously the HD quality image. Some complained about the proprietary SD card, but you must realize that this SD card is half the size/thickness of regular SD cards.

Sony HDR-TG1 4MP High Definition Handycam Camcorder with 10x Optical Super Steady Shot Zoom (4GB Memory Stick Included)
Shoot amazingly crisp HD footage with an unbelievably small camcorder that lives up to the Sony name. The HDR-TG1 Handycam camcorder records Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution video from a lightweight, slim body crafted from pure titanium. It's tough enough for everyday HD video shooting and perfect for travel with its compact size that won't take up much room in your bag. The stylish design incorporates a Premium Hard Coating for superior resistance to even the smallest scratches. It records to convenient Memory Stick PRO Duo media, and Sony's ClearVid CMOS Sensor (with Exmor derived technology) and BIONZ image processor provide spectacular video and stunning 4.0 megapixel still images. Face Detection technology is also included, which automatically finds and enhances faces for beautiful results.
Customer Review: Sony HDR-TG1 (Avoid)
Product produces washed out grainy video at reset settings. Forcing twilight color balance will bring out some color, but accidentally pushing Easy button will put camera back to washed out mode and another hunt for color correction settings. Sound is faint and the grip is horrible. Because the grip is so poor, pushing the record button makes all video contain a horrible shake at the start and stop of every clip. Also there is no audio output jack for ear buds to hear audio while recording or playing back and there is no FireWire jack for transfer to existing Sony products. What's up with the last two? Avoid this product, this is something you would expect from China in the $250 range, not something from Sony in the $899 range.
Customer Review: Now I take video everywhere - Excellent camera
December 2008 I am writing this preliminary review after I saw all the negative ones here on Amazon. I am amazed on how people can differ so greatly on the exact same item. I think the negatives here are not fair for this nice little marvel of technology. I bought this camera here on Amazon and have been playing with for about a week now. Let me start by saying that I take more video now than ever before, the key here is the size of the camera. I am an avid photographer & videographer and I usually go for high end equipment which also means large, heavy and complex controls. I already own 2 other Sony HD camcorders and I was looking for something I can keep in my pocket for those unexpected and spontaneous moments with the kids. Let me tell you this is the perfect little camera for that purpose. If you are looking for a high end HD then you are looking at the wrong camera. Nothing on the market at this point will be comparable to the full size cameras and offer the size advantage of this little gem. Now having said that, this statement applies to any camera that size, and that is true. However at this point there is only one other worthy competitor on the market and that is the Sanyo Xacti HD1010. I did very careful research for 3 weeks before I made my decision, I love Sanyo and had many good products by them. But there was one deal killer for me with the HD1010 and that was image stabilization. It is just terrible, really it should have went back to the design board. Shaky images is the Achilles heal of video. The Sony image stabilization on the other had is very impressive, Sony uses optical system vs. Sanyo which is electronic. This Sony is not without criticism either, it records in AVCHD format which is really a pain in the butt to edit on windows or even to view right out of the camera. You must convert the file first to something Windows can understand, and unless you like to tinker with that stuff this becomes a headache. Windows just cannot handle AVCHD file without some conversion first. You can use Sony Vegas, Pinnacle Studio 12 and a few other on the market and you must have a newer computer with lots of horsepower to keep up with this format. For Macs, all the newer Mac/Intel machines can handle AVCHD, older ones need some software additions. This is a limitation of all AVCHD at this point, so not unique to this camera. Sony, Canon, JVC and Panasonic all moved to this format now. The only way to avoid it at this point is to use tape based camcorders using HDV. This Sony has fair low light performance compared to the full size HD cams, but the way I look at it is this, I have the fair image now to look at, when I had nothing before because I never carried the bigger camcorder everywhere. The kids have fun instantly watching to footage on the camera screen & I caught priceless moments that I would have otherwise never had. Not to mention that I can download the files in seconds on to hard drive and I view & edit using Sony Vegas, the freebie software that Sony send with the camera is lacking. If you own a PlayStation (PS3) you're in luck, you can view the video directly from the memory card or you can dump it on a regular DVD and view it in HD on the PS3. If you want the ultimate video quality, then tape is still the way to go today using HDV. Even the top of the line AVCHD today the Sony HDR-SR12 is not capable of delivering the quality of the HDV & tape like Sony HDR-HC9. So it is all a matter of perspective. The digital photo function on the TG1 is average, only 4mp, consider this part a bonus feature. If you are looking for a real high quality digital camera, the HDR-TG1 is not going to provide it for you. The Sanyo on other hand uses an easier file format that works with most existing software and is readily recognized by Windows. That could be a big advantage for someone who has no interest in dealing with editing and software ..etc. To me that was never an issue though, I already do a lot of editing with my other HDV footage. Another plus for me was the compatibility of batteries, chargers & other accessories from the other Sonys I already own. I just could not deal with the very visible jittery video that the Sanyo produced. All in all, I think this is an excellent buy, not perfect but I now have the memories when before I did not, how much is that worth? I don't think the kids will complain much when they grow up that the video was not shot on the top of the line camera of it's time !! If you are buying this camera, it is strictly for the size and portability, and it does make a big difference between getting it on video or nothing at all. If this the only video camera you plan on buying then I recommend the HDR-SR12 if you don't mind the size. This HDR-TG1 on the other hand is truly a joy to hold and play with. It is very well made has a lot of heft to it, and feels solid. What I like: 1. Size: extremely portable, shirt pocket size & can take it everywhere. 2. HD video: smallest on the market, very high quality in good light. 3. Exquisite finish & attention to details and truly a joy to hold. 4. Very fast video file transfer from card to computer. 5. Has tripod thread at bottom. 6. Superb optics with Carl Zeiss lens. 7. True 5.1 sound, very impressive audio in optimal conditions. What I don't like: 1. Mediocre low light performance. 2. Sound recording poor in windy conditions. 3. AVCHD format hard to edit. 4. Photo function not impressive. 5. Battery life somewhat short (less than 1 hour record, 2 hour playback) 6. Accepts only 1 size battery NP-FH50 nothing bigger (must fit inside cam) 7. Cannot stand on bottom (has rounded finish) 8. No NightShot function like all other Sony videocams. 9. No camera case provided by Sony! (They'll sell you one for $39 !!)

Customer Review: Fun
We are really enjoying our new camera...it works great, it's easy and what surprised us is it only took a few days for it to arrive by mail.
Customer Review: Just for me.
When you're going to buy a new camera there are a few questions you have to answer yourself in order to get the right one: 1. Why should I buy something with specific features if I don't have the appropiate devices? 2. What will I record? family videos? pro material? 3. Which transfer method do I prefer? Memory stick? DVD? traditional tape? 4. How long do you think you'll be recording by day? 1hr? 4hrs - are you sure? 5. Do you prefer to record outside - inside? Daylight - at night? When you have the answers you can start to look for the new toy :) My answers and decision: - I don't have a high resolution tv and I guess I won't buy one of this at this moment, so, a very high resolution camera for me it's not useful. - I want my camera for my "family life", I won't be recording the last madonna's music video. I don't need special lenses to expand the record - video quality. - I like to capture at day and night. The night mode is very important for me. - I don't like to have hundreds of disks around my room, you have to handle it with careful and it can be easily damaged. I prefer to keep all my stuff in my hard disk to play it every time I want without handling cases, cleaning a fingerprint, etc, then, the memory stick option is indispensable for my needs. - Most of my shots will be walking, running, etc, so a image stabilization system is required. - I don't think I will record a 6hrs long video. I'm making my digital album not a movie! So, a 2hrs life battery is enough for me, then it comes the memory stick, I got a 4GB - Sony. In the last years technology is raising very fast with more expensive devices, people is buying without taking in mind the final use for things like this one. I know a couple of friends that recently bought a blu ray player and they connect it to a traditional tv!! Really stoopid, don't you think? Well, let's see some nice features this camera owns: 1. Touchpanel - LCD. It lets you to handle all the functions easily - quickly. However you have to notice it'll consume more battery charge. 2. Steady Shot works well when there is enough light, of course, if you are jumping while recording is running a clear picture cannot be expected. 3. Microphone capacity is enough to record all sounds around. there is no interference when zoom in/out feature is used. 4. Video quality is very good but picture mode is really bad (my webcam works better than this), however I wanted it for video not for pictures. So, it's ok for me. 5. Battery included charges quickly. 6. Nightshot - infrared sys is good just keep in mind you have to be really close to the target. 7. When you're recording directly in the mini-dvd you have to hold it tight, otherwise you'll find picture noise in the final video. As you can see this camera was my best option taking note of: 1. the price 2. features 3. Brand (it's not a secret you'll find better quality in sony devices). I hope all this info can help you to decide the best device for you at this moment.

Customer Review: Beware - NOT a new battery!!!!!
To anyone thinking of buying from this company - think again. I read a few reviews about this product and company and chose to disregard the warnings but I should really have listened. The battery was shipped to me very quickly and arrived long before I expected it. Unfortunately, that's the only positive thing I have to say. You'll notice that they only advertise NEW batteries but the batteries ARE NOT NEW!! I opened the package and out fell the battery - by itself with no packaging or anything and small scratches all over it. Don't trust this company. This is obviously a used or refurbished battery (thus the price) and I wish I would've known.

Sony LCS-X30 Soft Carrying Case for most Sony Camcorders
Features new grey trim design / Increased interior capacity / Modular interface added for attaching other items, and interior color helps you locate them
Customer Review: Good, but a little big.
I personally think sony camcorders should come with a carrying bag but as the one I bought didn't, this one is fine. Check the dimensions though, so you know what you are buying - it swamps the camcorder, even with all the cords.
Customer Review: Functional, and good looking too
I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC96, and I was using a nicely fitted Sony branded case for it, but after I added a wide angle lens to the camcorder, and an extended battery, the camera with its accessories attached would no longer fit in my old case. So, I got one of these Sony LCS-X30 Soft Carrying Case for most Sony Camcorders and it's perfect for me. The interior dimensions are about: 5 inches high, 3 1/2 inches wide, and 7 1/2 inches long (if the removable dividers are out). Something 8 inches long would probably fit in here too. I keep cables in one of the end zippered compartments, and extra tapes in the other. On the front, there is a nice zippered compartment where I keep another tape, and other battery, and more could fit in there too, and under the top flap there is a small zippered mesh compartment (I keep a tripod mount in there for the unit). The strap is long enough, and has a small pad on it for your shoulder.
